The Story Of 3 Knots - Part 2

Yes, small broke a coconut right at my feet and I jumped to avoid its pieces. The camera man took advantage of this situation and with some basic loop effects, made me look as if I jumped thrice. Whatay!!

There were lot of new faces but the face I really wanted to see was busy getting ready. I've never understood the concept of 10+ men in the same room as the groom to get him ready. I badly wanted some space alone after an incident late previous night. Have to say, I did spend a considerable amount of time in getting my trident pocket square right. My grandpa was actually super excited to see me in that attire and I still remember him sitting on the bed with a walking stick and talking to me in Dr.House style.

I went to meet the bride and did she look pretty or what!! She looked so much more beautiful than I ever imagined her to look in that dress. We smiled a lot at each other, looked into each others' eyes and just like that exchanged lots of words even before speaking the first word.

I wasn't really a fan of these wedding photographers until I met this Choudhary and totally became his fan within his first few snaps. But then again, one of my favourite pics from that day has to be this.

As we both walked onto the stage, I could already see a sea of people queuing up and that I when we both realized that its going to be a long night. There were some genuine smiles and wishes, there were some fake smiles, there were also some "I don't know who you are, I'm here just for some free food" faces. The worst of them all were a couple of them who actually said "I wanted to get you married to my friend's daughter of the same caste, but now its ok. Congrats!!" Aaah , the one day I felt like really slapping someone after along time. However, my MIL had already kept a couple of Red Bulls behind me and they helped me to avert the ugly situations.

There were quite a few incidents that tried to alter both our moods, but then again my terrible jokes came in handy yet again to make sure that both of us kept a smile on till midnight. Choudhary even made me get down on my knee and propose "just for the photos" . It was that or Photoshop and I went for the manlier option.

It was finally time to sit down and have dinner. The food was amazingly tasty but both of us couldn't eat much just because the gastric juices had already slept off. I found the concept of asking the bride to stay back in the Choultry even though her house is just 2 minutes from the place a bit silly. I orchestrated a perfect escape and as a reader, you're probably one of the very few people to know about it even today.

Some pesky relatives also wanted to do some idiotic ritual at 1:00 in the morning and I metaphorically showed them the finger and went to sleep. Batha and Bujji were there to accompany me and I realized that it was 4:00 in the morning and I still hadn't slept. Not because of any wedding jitters but because of those damn Red Bulls. It surely had given my eyes some wings. The unsynchronized snoring of two people also didn't help the cause. Couple more hours to wake up for the D-Day and I was still awake.

To be continued...

"All that we see is all that we think about"

I've fallen off the taxpaying wagon, yet again. Even though there is a chuckle inside me for not paying tax, there is a frown as well because my bank balance is going south. I sit in my room and have strategically placed everything within  my arm's reach, right from food to drink and beer to its proud counterpart, the beer belly. These days have been pretty good as I have had a lot of time on my hands to just relax and unwind, but I'm sure the tipping point for this is just around the corner. While all my efforts to turn myself  into the sarcastic "House" by watching him have gone in vain, I've definitely stumbled upon some really good soundtracks. Before you continue reading this post, I urge you to play the below video, keep the sound to a soothing level and just enjoy the music.

This song actually made me look and think about things that I had not wondered much about. All that we see is all that we think about is true on so many different levels. There is no doubt that we worry about or get influenced by things that we see and experience in our day to day lives.

We curse the government and everyone involved when our cars hit the potholes or skid off a slippery surface or just about anytime when the roads are bad. How often do we think about those workers who get the asphalt ready and mix it with gravel and ultimately get the road repaired overnight. We forget that there was even a pothole in that place as we no longer get "ditched". We take overnight buses to travel to far off places but forget to even thank the drivers who have taken us safely to our destinations. Its a fact that people who work during the nights(negate the call centre blokes) and sleep during daytime have totally changed their biological clocks and are only going to affect their health in the long run.

We take interest in the quality of drinking water or environmental conditions only when someone dies. We hardly think about people under the poverty line until and unless some viral video or campaign comes out. None of us even bothered about Egypt or Libya before Mubarak or Gaddafi  came under the hammer.

Keeping the world news aside, even on the personal front we always try to play to our strengths and bask in them rather than exploring our weaknesses and digging deep inside ourselves, thus creating a barrier between what we want to see and project ourself as and what we don't even want to tickle. The latter is always considered as a sleeping, fire breathing dragon and we are always scared to wake it up. But then again during some situations, this dragon not only wakes up but starts breathing fire from all possible orifices and thats when we crumble and thats when we fail the acid test.

Thus, I honestly believe that we should spare some time to think about things that we do not do often or explore things that are totally outside our comfort zones. Not only will we be more thankful for the lives we are leading instead of saying "why is everything happening to only me", but we will also be able to grow as a person and bring about a change.

P.S - I know I know, its been one of those philosophical, preaching, aka #KillMeNow kinda posts, but I cant help it. Someone get me back on the payroll, and I promise to stop writing on these kind of topics (wink).

Here Comes The Brain

Its about time, I wrote something about this wonder organ called the brain. I have always had an interest in medical science but decided not to go down that road for numerous reasons. More on that some other time. Being a regular "House" watcher, I really love the way in which some of the cases develop and pose really strange scenarios. I would request all my medical friends to criticize this post blissfully if they spot any mistakes and inturn educate me on this topic.

First a simple class on the anatomy of the brain. The brain is made up of two halves, namely the left brain and the right brain. These are two are connected to each other by a thick cable of nerves at the base called as corpus collosum (Yeah yeah..I still remember the II PUC Biology class and Skimba). I simple terms, it is like an Ethernet cable connecting the two giant processors. The right side of our body is wired to the left side of the brain and vice versa and I really have no idea why it is so. There are numerous other parts as well, but for the time being lets stick with just these.

Both these halves carry out special functions. Among the numerous other tasks assigned to them, the left brain deals with the analytical and logical side of things. The right brain is more into the artistic and creative side. So if at all you are writing a GMAT or CAT, you have almost put the right brain to snooze, only to wake it up when you need to scratch your privates with your left hand.

I was reading about an interesting case, in which a guy's corpus collosum was totally removed in order to treat him for uncontrollable seizures(short circuits). The end result was that there was no coordination between the left brain and the right. As a result of this, the right hand and right eye could actually name an object such as pen but couldn't explain what is was used for. The left eye and hand were able to explain the use of the object, but unable to name it. Cool ha.

If at all a similar thing happened to you, can you imagine the situation? Infact imagine a situation in which you are on a highway in your car and your driver just eloped as he couldn't take more of you and your peculiar situation. You identify your iPhone but have no idea what to do with it, a BMW in which you are seated but cant drive, you see your Barclays credit card but don't know how it use it, you are feeling hungry and you even recognize a McD outlet just across the road but cant process that fact that it serves food. Cool or Koole now?

How many kids have you actually heard saying they want to be a musician or a painter or even a writer? The reason for this is that our education is tailored in such a way that a lot of emphasis is based on the skills of the left brain like maths and science rather than art or drawing. Invariably, even though you might be a very creative person inside, you end up flexing more of your left brain until you reach an age where you have the freedom to choose your career path. In my case, when I actually look back, I didn't take up blogging and designing as a hobby until I finished my studies. Infact, I realized this as I was writing this post. Totally in love with my brain at this moment :)

If you are in a state of emotional turmoil and unable to take a decision, don't be hard on yourself and don't blame yourself too much. It just means that the two halves of your master, the brain are just quarreling and disagreeing on the topic which has put you in this situation. Ever wondered why its so hard to propose to a girl? While the logical side is reminding you of a possible slap or a high heeled shoe in your face, the emotional side is pushing you to see the "happily ever after" side of it.

A very interesting brain fact is that the size of your brain is about 1400cc. Metaphorically speaking, its as powerful as a Hayabusa and more importantly as intelligent as the super computer of 2030.

P.S - I ended up making a lot of spelling mistakes in writing this post, before correcting them. Can any of doctors let me know the possible reason?

Hi, my name is Vikas and I'm an addict

It was back in the good old engineering days that it all started. The magic number of 15 in the internals was the only aim and to top it all up, there was always T4 to make up for it, if anything went wrong with the divine plan.

It started with Prison Break and all the night long gaming was replaced by Scofield marathon. The break time talk was totally devoted to this and people actually started to shoo away others who had no idea about Bellick's belly and thus became self proclaimed members of league of extraordinary gentlemen. The Prison Break DVDs were so much in demand that at one point I felt that I might actually loose my exotica porn DVD market. But then again, it was just a passing phase and people came back to the daddy of all DVDs and this actually proves the first mover advantage.

A new competitor entered soon in the name of 24 and its advantage was that it already had 6 seasons. This took the battle of nature vs nurture to a totally different level. At some point, people had to get fed up of the concept of Jack Bauer can't die and even if he dies, he'll come back in the next season as a ghost. Even though the Naughty America series has a pretty much predictable ending, people actually get to see different people doing a lot more than real life Jack could ever think of doing in his lifetime.

During my final year, I got hooked onto Dexter and to be frank its 1st season and the most recent 4th season are the best ever. I try to put myself under house arrest after watching Dexter as the temptation to see blood is at its peak. If at all it becomes uncontrollable, for the man I am, I bring home a homeless person and chop him up into pieces. Nine pieces to be exact and dump him in the nearby pig farm. For more information on using pigs for this purpose, I suggest the movie Snatch.

If at all you believed everything about this blood thirsty nature of me, then I'm sure I have a great future as a story writer.

Two and a Half Men, Big Bang Theory followed soon after and the latter is on track to becoming one of the best sitcoms ever and I'll always have a special place for the former. It was only a matter of time when Dr.House entered my brains and started fiddling with them thus leading to aneurysms. To relieve myself of this, I watch any random episode of Friends and it never fails to assert the fact that old is gold. To give an example of how the world has changed over the past decade or so, Chandler in one the older episodes boasts about his lappy having features like 12MB RAM and 512MB hard disk.

Its one of those simple things that tell us how technology has changed everything around us. I'm sure atleast half of the online population will have a stroke if Facebook or Twitter goes down just for a day. There is a funny South Park episode that actually depicts this scenario.

Nevertheless, I'm proud to confess my addiction for all the above mentioned series and probably many more to come. Have you?
